In recent years, Uganda has been on a promising journey towards digital transformation.

The National ICT Job Fair held on the 17th and 18th of October 2023, in partnership with Huawei Technologies Uganda and Nile Post, marked a significant milestone in addressing youth unemployment and paving the way for a brighter future in technology and innovation.

With the theme "Navigating the Digital Horizon," this event highlighted the pivotal role of ICT in providing Ugandans with their basic needs, as well as the contributions of companies like Ridelink in this endeavor.

The Permanent Secretary of ICT, Ms. Aminah Zawedde, emphasized the increasing importance of the ICT sector in Uganda. With ICT services growing at an impressive rate of 14.8%, the sector now contributes 2% of the country's nominal GDP. This growth is a clear indication of the positive impact ICT can have on the economy and, subsequently, on addressing unemployment issues.

One of the critical aspects discussed during the event was the question of whether Uganda is independent or dependent in meeting its basic needs. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni highlighted that basic human needs in Uganda include food, shelter, health, security, and communication. The event underscored the importance of ICT in helping Ugandans access these essential services independently, using technology as an enabler.

Ridelink, a prominent company showcased at the ICT Job Fair, plays a vital role in addressing these needs, particularly in the realm of transportation and logistics. Ridelink’s mission is to make cargo freight affordable and accessible for small businesses, effectively becoming Africa's No.1 Logistics partner for Small and Medium Businesses. Leveraging technology, Ridelink's AI-powered and machine learning platform provides a solution for businesses seeking efficient and cost-effective logistics services.

Ridelink's mobile app and website offer users the opportunity to easily find the most affordable means of moving their shipments. This convenience can significantly impact the accessibility of essential goods, like food and medical supplies, to remote areas of Uganda. By streamlining the logistics process, Ridelink contributes to addressing the challenge of meeting basic needs for Ugandans.

In conclusion, the National ICT Job Fair not only underscored the importance of ICT in Uganda's development but also showcased the active role of companies like Ridelink in making basic needs more accessible.

As Uganda continues its digital transformation journey, the integration of technology into various sectors, including logistics, holds the promise of a brighter and more independent future for Ugandans, ensuring that essential services are readily available to all, irrespective of their location. Through the collective efforts of both public and private sectors, Uganda can look forward to a more inclusive and prosperous future.
